Soul Food Dinner Letter from Debo

Dear Residents & students, 2/1/2008

On Sunday February 24th Debo and the Reslife Department presents: The Soul Food Dinner program! Because of the event being catered, it is wise to have a sign-up sheet to see how many people will possibly be attending this wonderful event. The Soul Food Dinner will be hosted in the Science Building 2 Lounge Area beginning at 5pm and ending approximately around 8pm. The food that will be served will be food that is traditionally served in African American homes during holidays, special occasions and to celebrate freedom and justice. With the food served, there is history behind it like with most customs and traditions. Debo and his staff humbly invite you to this most joyous occasion! The Soul Food Dinner program will provide a great opportunity to try different foods and also learn a little about some of the most prominent African American figures in American History. They are the Unsung Heroes & Heroines of today and yesterday because although they have made tremendous contributions to our very existence, we are often left in the dark about exactly what those ideas, inventions, trademarks or simple suggestions were or presently are.

To enjoy this program, we ask that you sign up on your RA’s door or at the Montgomery or Ondine front desks (especially if you live off campus) on the sign up sheet provided beginning February 1st. There are only 25 spots per floor/building/desk depending on where you are and you have until Sunday February 17th to sign up or before spots fill up on the sheets. Those of you who are on the sign up sheet will be issued an invitation or pass that you must bring to the event and show it to the RA’s who will be serving food on that day. You are ONLY allowed to sign up once and ONLY on your particular floor so for instance, if you are a 4th floor resident in Broadway and the list is full you are not able to go to any other floor and sign up. The only exception to this rule is if for instance you live on a particular floor and your floor has filled up, but by Friday the 15th if you have not signed up by then you are able to sign up on other floors that have a list that has not been filled. Please be courteous and we hope to see you there and contact your RA to check for available openings in case your floor/building is filled! Thanks-You!

If you have any questions please contact your RA or give Debo the Area Coordinator a call at 503-725-2452. Thank-You!

Sincerely,

Debo Powell & the Residence Life Staff!
